Indictment and jurisdiction Notwithstanding any other provision of law:  [PL 1975, c. 499, §1 (NEW).] 1. All proceedings for Class A, B and C crimes must be prosecuted by indictment, unless indictment is waived, in which case prosecution must be as the Supreme Judicial Court provides by rule;  [PL 1997, c. 4, §2 (AMD).] 2. All proceedings for murder shall be prosecuted by indictment; and  [PL 1977, c. 510, §19 (AMD).] 3. The District Courts have jurisdiction to try civil violations and Class D and E crimes and to impose sentence in Class A, B and C crimes in which the District Court has accepted a plea of guilty.  [PL 2005, c. 326, §2 (AMD); PL 2005, c. 326, §5 (AFF).] SECTION HISTORY PL 1975, c. 499, §1 (NEW).
